Steve Goes Home

It was wonderful to have all three boys back together. Between “retail therapy”, watching movies, playing pool and simply hanging out, it was rewarding for me to see the boys be together again. We took Steve to the airport this morning, grateful for the chance to see him again and appreciative of the kind gesture of the person who paid for his ticket. As much as I loved having him home, I know that it meant the world to Mike.

The days certainly have their ups and downs. We are trying a new drug to combat the nausea and it seemed to make a huge difference for the first few days. Yesterday Mike threw up in both PT and OT again so the dosage may need to be increased. This seems to be his biggest hurdle but in spite of the set back, he remains positive.

Mike’s days are filling up with classes, therapy and appointments, gradually eating away at the nap times! How exhilarating it is to anticipate 4 pm and know that his “work” is over for the day. Mike continues to practice his transfers and today will start his hand class and arm strengthening. He needs more muscle mass but you need exercise and calories, something that isn’t helped by “losing” his meals or feeling sick while sitting in the chair.

People have generously set up a trust account for Mike at ATB Financial in Lac La Biche (The Mike Barker Trust Account). Anyone can donate to the account and if they wish to leave their name, they will be issued a receipt. People have already donated funds to Mike and they have been deposited to the account. Your generosity overwhelms us and I know that each dollar that is donated will go to making life’s tasks simpler and more enriching for Mike.

Thank you again for how you have shown your love and support in such tangible ways.

We were in Lac La Biche today and seen a sign on a business door about a Mike Barker Golf Tournament. Just looking for more details, if you do have any! I'm sure there would be alot of support through this site. Let us know! Thanks

Hi Guys,
Glad you all had a great visit. We will keep praying for I'm sure better is yet to come.
Somehow I missed what the donations are about. Are they for equipment, extended care, therapy, and things like that? Just in case I'm not the only one who missed it.
We would love to help any way we can.
Thanks,
Still Praying,
Wanda, Lawrence and Dezi

Mike

I am soo glad to hear that you got out of the hospital and spent some time with your brothers. Swimming and hanging with Family... there is no better pass time. It is really encouraging to hear your doing well. Keep it up Mike. Don't ever give up, just give it to God.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT:

Psalm 81:1, 6-7
For the director of music. According to gittith. Of Asaph.
1 Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!
6 He says, "I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket.
7 In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah.
Selah

I pray you and your family find comfort in these words. God Bless,

-Julie-Anne

Been away a long time, God. It's good to get back and catch up on what's going on with Barkers.

Thank-you that the trouble spots with Michael's burns seem to be healing well. Maybe they're healed by now, I don't know. The last post on them was the 24th. If they're not, I pray that they would finish quickly and not hinder him at all with the physio he does.

It was good to see pictures of him...makes him more "real" or whatever. Puts a face to someone I know only by name.

Thank-You for the excellent nurses You've provided him with, both at the U of A and now the ones at the Glenrose that are warming up to him. Bless them for their care of those in need, Lord, and for their willingness to give of themselves.

Thank-You that he's finally in the Glenrose! It sounds like it's a lot of work, but no pain, no gain, right?

It sounds like Barkers are still looking for a house in Edm. Lead them to the right one for them, Father. I know You are VERY capable of working miracles to get what is exactly suited to our needs, and I pray You would do that for them. Give them a sense of when to hold back and not go with some prospects, or which ones to follow up. Provide a good house for them, one that could be easily adapted to fit Michael.

I pray that You would give Brenda creative ideas for new meals ... hospital food would very definitely get boring, but always bringing meals in must be a lot of work too, both in planning and preparing and transporting.

Thank-You that Steve was able to come visit again. It's good for brothers to be together, have fun, and be crazy!

He's still having a lot of trouble with nausea, Lord. Please help the doctors find the right dosage of the right drug to combat this, or give them other ideas for how to help it, or just take it away completely and baffle everyone! It's so hard to eat when you don't feel like it, and he needs to eat to keep up his strength and build muscle for his therapy.

~Psalm 6:9
