We got the word today! Looks like Mike will be moving to the Glenrose tomorrow morning. No more snoozing after physio - hard work, here we come. As much as we are looking forward to the next phase, we will be sad to leave the hospital.
We will miss the PT/OT team. No doubt, Mary and Kerstin will miss the daily drama of wondering whether Michael will be able to keep down his breakfast! And I’m sure Helena will miss being distracted in order for Mike to “cheat” on his finger exercises! I think Mike has considered kidnapping them and bringing them to the Glenrose – it’s hard to leave such great people.
We will miss the unit nurses and staff. Mike happened to mention that he’d heard rumors about the possibility of having ice cream as a snack. Not only did he get ice cream but today there was a box of popsicles just for him! I doubt whether he’ll be so spoiled at the Glenrose.
And last but not least, I highly doubt that I will be able to assist the nurses when doing Michael’s dressing changes. After all the joking and teasing about wearing gloves, I was presented with “sterile” gloves today! Now if only I could get a pair of scrubs….
It’s been 6 weeks since the accident. Much has changed but we have much to be thankful for. I thank God everyday for Michael. I still can’t quite believe how I ended up being the mom of such terrific boys. Neil and I feel truly blessed.

Good luck. We know you will do great at the Glenrose and will make it home while it is your home. It will be a brighter place because you all are there.

that is so exciting that you get to finally move on the Glenrose. Im sure Mike will make more great friends with the nurses and care givers there. it is so cool to read about mike's recovery, it really is inspiring. he has shown such strength and determination. Good luck with the move- hope break fast stays down during it.

Hey mike,
Wow! moving day- it's so cool to see how much has happened in the past six weeks. Sounds like Glenrose will be a lot of work, but if they give out ice-cream for snacks, well, it can't be that bad (good one, lol) Everyone at the hospital will miss you (probably) lol. Still praying for the nausea, so hopefully Glenrose has plenty of Froot Loops!
God bless,
Britney

sweet news you guys! this is what we've all been praying about and the day is here! i trust that the move is going well today and that you find some equally as terrific ppl to help, care and sneak in treats at the glenrose. (Ok maybe they are 'sneaking' them, but doesn't it just seem more fun if they're being sneaky about it)
thanks for continuing to keep the site up to date ... the pics are awesome.
cotinuing to pray.
love,
noreen

Hey Mike!
Good to hear that you're moving to Glenrose! I know you'll miss the staff at U of A, and I'm sure that they will miss you. From the pictures, it seems like they have a lot of fun with you.
Keep up the hard work in physio!

Hey Barker Family,
This is a rather long passage I found in the Bible today, but I thought of you guys when I saw it:
8We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don't give up and quit. 9We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. 10Through suffering, these bodies of ours constantly share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.
16That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17For our present troubles are quite small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! 18So we don't look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.-2 Corinthians 4:8-10,16-18
Have an awesome moving day party!*<: )

The blogs and visuals are appreciated beyond words.
Congrats on the moving announcement. I bet the staff is wishing they could move with you - as much as they brighten your day I am sure you do the same.
Good vibes M-Dawg and Barker clan,
Leanne
Mike, so good to see you. Keep taking pictures. We are heading to Ontario tomorrow - will 'carry' you with us and let the prayers continue in us for you. Many back there are carrying you also, and we will greet them for you. Hugs,
Aunt Mary
I am so excited for you being able to get even more assistance. I know at times it will seem like you can not move another muscle but it is then that you will make the great strides in healing. Keep your sense of humor and share your great optimism with others. I t has been over 2 years since my accident and every day is a new miracle. When you think it can not get any better...just wait and watch. Now, go break some hearts at your new home and remember flirting is always good for the soul. :o) HA HA

Hey Mike
Ash and I are trying hard to come up with more poems, were trying to write a sonnet!!!
Hope Glenrose is easy on you on your first day.
Hey Mike,
Moving day ha arrived...right on!
I know that you will have the caregivers eating out of your hand in no time.
I loved the pictures, you look fab-u-lous ( try to imagine Billy Crystal saying it) Oh oh, you are not to young to know who he is are you? I just gave away my age,,,;)
Praying the move goes well and keep your spirits up, the mind is a wonderful thing and can do way more than we think. Mind over matter and all that jazz.
Susan
Mike, awesome to hear that you FINALLY get to move over to the Glenrose. I hope you have as many "fun, fun, fun" days there as you've had at the U of A hospital. I'm sure that your new caregivers will be as charmed with you as the rest of us are. Keep working hard, never give up...strive to always be better than you were the day before. Continue to pray for healing, God listens. Just have faith in yourself...and know that all of us believe in you. You have truly inspired so many people in the last 6 weeks, and I'm confident that your journey is just beginning. Work hard, and play harder! Good luck at the Glenrose!!! Keep Smiling...you have a great one!!!

Michael, fantastic news.....there is no doubt that you will excel at Glenrose. I am sure the home like setting will help, maybe they can slip you a few more helpings of your favourites!
Thanks for the pictures. Throughout the past 6 weeks the power of faith has been constant and comforting.
take care
Mrs.Robb :)
Is that the same shirt as before, or a wardrobe malfunction?? jk

You have shown yourself as a true man of God. Keep being a light in this dark world.
Yay for answered prayer! Hope the move goes well. Its great to see pics. All you Barker boys have such awesome smiles and great hair. Hey Matt, maybe you can convince Mike to get a perm instead of shaving off such great hair. ;)
And while "Mom" is right about having awesome sons it seems to me that the Barker boys have equally amazing parents!
Thanks for posting updates. Stay strong! Joshua 1:9
Happy moving and happy Canada day (early). Hope all is well with the move and the added work!! :)
Prayers,
Britney
