Sodium? Who needs it!

Mike was doing well today. There was a little scare with some of the nurses last night. Apparently they were worried about Mike's Sodium levels (and the complications of low sodium). They wouldn't let Mike have much for water or ice after that which was hard for him, but the doctor this morning said that everything is fine with his levels and he can have as much water or fluids or any other food as he wants. It's too bad his doctor isn't there 24/7! His skin has dried out some, and this has made him rather itchy, but I think the Vasiline that my Mom covered him in should help. Aparently it does the best job of holding the moisture in, and that's exactly what we need.

They are still trying to manage his pain; his mood cycles along with his pain medication. Hopefully tomorrow will be much better for pain. Mike was eating more food today. It is good to see him improving each day. I don't think it was mentioned previously in this blog, but Mike did sustain some burns to his leg from anti-freeze. While they look serious, the doctor's say that most, if not all of them, will heal and not require skin grafts. Mike can't feel any of them, and right now, it is a blessing.

It is amazing to hear and read the stories connecting Mike to others (keep 'em coming!). Thank you all for being a part of Mike's life.

I like posting pictures of Mike for those who don't know him personally. But, they can't all be smiles for you to get the whole picture of who Mike is...

Hey Mike
Glad to hear things are improving. You are always in my thoughts and I wish you all the best. You are kind of a little brother to me since you practically lived at the condo this year. I've been picking up my downloading too, so next time I see you I'll have a couple of CD's for your listening pleasure. Margaret wishes you the best too: she wants to come see you when I come visit next time. If your lucky I'll get her to show you her boobs. jj.

Good Morning Mike..I was thinking about you this morning. Do you remember how Gracie and Max spent some time together when they were both young? Well...I'm sure Gracie picked up some habits from Max. How many cats do you know that stand up on your leg and meow until you pick them up? And follows me around the house just like a little dog...
Every day will be a challenge and every day you will get stronger Mike. Just don't forget that your smile is part of that healing. It is after all, your trade mark. You are in our thoughts and prayers every day...with Love, Cindy and Wally.

This pic kind of reminds me of the story of Pinocchio, when he begins to turn into a donkey :) Not that Michael would ever goof off or misbehave like wooden head did...

Hi to Mike and the rest of the Barker Family:
Just a note to say that since we heard the news of Mike's accident we have been in prayer for him and for the entire family. Including the grandparents....good friends of ours.
We have passed on the request to our church's prayer chain as well.

In the early 1980's our daughter was in a terrible car accident and in a coma for 3 weeks and in hospital for 3 months. Thankfully many folks prayed for us all and we can give God the glory for her recovery even though the doctors' prognosis were so grim.
Two years later our son broke several vertebrae in his back in a skiing accident and spent 6 weeks in a stryker bed. There too, the Lord upheld us all and we can thank the many Christian friends and relatives that upheld us all in prayer at that time.
It is so hard to know what we can say to be of some comfort to you all in the midst of this calamity but God can see the future for Mike and He will guide and sustain you all in a special way.
We will be in special prayer tomorrow that the Lord will guide the hands of the doctors as they perform surgery on MIke's back.
